cyh19 by mri & nhow nhow is another special release for us. since his early productions on labels like force tracks and raum musik we are fans of mri. for his new project nhow nhow, mri teams up with ferdinand dreyssig, a super talented classic trained musician. all those of you who know the releases on resopal and little helpers can confirm: the avengers are in the house!

straight from germany, this talented producer delivered some of the best deep house music around. entitled >the first floor ep<, it starts with >show me< which is one of those eminently soulful house tracks with a sparse approach to production, all the elements sounding so crisp and distinct in the mix but judged perfectly. whilst >rooted< is a louche head nodder supreme. on the flip side, with >got that< hes creating an all-enveloping atmosphere with its oven-warm pads and rich analogue bass, punctuated with jazzy chords and vocal murmurings. >defense< showcases hes excellent knack for crafting moodymann style textures with the depth to boot, combining a solid rhythmic snap with drawn out vocal landscapes and detroit-referencing melodies. and to last,>trouble< is all brisk, upright percussive layers splayed over swooping disco filtration. nicks approaching house from various angles and tempos and naturally theres plenty of deft usage of samples, such an ep just demonstrate how on top of their game skylax / wax classic is right now - big tip!

martin brodins second single from the forthcoming album which is due for june 2012. it follows the successful badabing which featured diskjokke as remixer. strings attack is all about the strings for disco. ok,now you may think he gone all cheesy here, but that’s totally wrong.it still have the funkyness and groove it needs to be a full-fledged disco anthem in our ears. and we invited two of the most prolific producers out there to make this a rock solid release. switzerlands finest, headman (robi insinna), who we all know from his own relish label and releases on gomma. he turn the original to an uber-cool bass-laden track and makes it a bit more in-your-face to speak, while the original is a bit more freestyle. second out is spanish born ilya santana with his funky mellow take. its a perfect remix for those beach parties we all love.

makam – what ya doing: the hague based producer makam definitely didnt see jack play, simply because hes waaaay to young to be bragging about the history of house music. nevertheless mister guy blanken delivers a stunning anthem in the best of warehouse and music box traditions. keep those 909 rim shots coming please, but make way for the irresistible breakdown. makam – what ya doing (funkineven) more 909 sweetness comes from london based steven julien aka eglo-related vintage fetishist funkineven. while treating the original with respect, he adds some analogue acid dirt to it. in an everything but subtle way, that is. peak time stuff!

ander-traxx is a fresh label operating out of glasgow with the intent of releasing righteous underground house, and although mainly a platform for the labels founder alex-ander to showcase his own productions, ander-traxxs remit also includes the presentation of unknown talent for future releases. for this first release, alex steps up to the plate to deliver because of me, followed by 3 remixes from artists born and raised in glasgow. the original kicks things off with its intro of glacial pads and jittery hats, before quickly delving into a seriousely deep groove brimming with melodic layers. although because of me gives a strong nod to the recent developements of producers like omar s and kyle hall, it undoubtedly has the hallmarks of an alex-ander production, his unique arrangements coming to the forefront while still complimenting the crisp percussion that drives the track forward. carlos nilmmns (co founder of the formidable solab production unit) mix is a much more off-kilter and submerged affair. nilmmns plays down the epic quality of the original and adds chugging rhythmics and sweetcured piano work for a lesson in divine repetition. mesumas feedback mix goes in for the dancefloor attack, not surprising for a gentleman whos previous work has seen releases on hardgroove and seventh sign. rolling toms and a booming kick meet aquatic vocal samples and spectral harmonicas, and will still please those partial to deeper sounds. last up to give because of me the rework treatment is meschi (lunar disko, lux, snuff traxx), who mixes his chicago influenced analogue stylings perfectly with the source material. stripped down crescendos build up to a euphoric drop, and meschis elated melodies bring another twist to this excercise in deep funk. because of me is one of those rare e.ps that works just as well in a non-club enviroment as it does on the dancefloor. with this warning shot, alex-ander will surely be capturing the ears of many in 2012 and beyond.

from gui borattos latest album iii comes >this is not the end<, an indie minded track that convincingly demonstrates guis impressive skill set when it comes to emotional narratives embedded in a distinctively monumental context. like his timeless >beautiful life< and last years album highlight >destination: education< (already remixed to perfection by terranova and tale of us), >this is not the end< features the beautiful vocals of luciana villanova, who seems to know exactly what makes gui tick - which doesnt come as a surprise, as they are married – and possesses this rarest of all gifts, an unique voice that seems to address each listener personally. in his own 2012 mix featured here, gui doesnt so much concentrate on the originals tearjerking qualities (which were already fully formed), but streamlines the arrangement for ease of use on the floor of your choice, making the track even more refined and addictive. those of you looking for a slighty more adventurous approach will find their satisfaction with michael mayers rework on the flipside, where the source materials hypnotic qualities are brought to the fore, resulting in a masterful slice of catchy prime time psychedelica. with both mixes turning out to be instant classics, we can definitely confirm that this is not the end.

after a long silence iron curtis returns with his magic. thoughts on is the producer’s debut single for 4lux. proper house and disco tracks! the original mix of thoughts on is a banging deep house joint with haunting melodies and cut up vocals. the 2012 version provides for a more jumping bassline and hard hitting straight forward beats. iron curtis goes mental on oh come on with his cut up and vibe-heavy jazz samples and heavy pounding 808 beats. relentless! on interlude in the park the lights are dimmed and the tempo drops. a slow disco burner for those who love slow jams.

searle comes back to mowar for his second release. while his mind transfer ep was a darker workout, his new she moves ep show a deeper dubbed side of his productions. the title track perfectly combines the dub aesthetics and simple basic channel effectiveness with sweet infatuating stabs and scapes. this ones for the deeper and more sensual moments on the dancefloor. melancholy goes even deeper emotionally layering a steady slightly jacking rhythm with edgy melancholic atmospherics and melodies. on the flipside russ gabriel, who remixed on the very first mowar release back in 2008, reworks she moves in a stripped hypnotic mover, slightly more thumping for those sexy hips. last track tunneling is what searle would call a 5 am groover for the die-hards who want to be embraced by the sensuality of deep emotional techno.

almost four years after his last dial record single >miles< lawrence is back with another tribute to the sun. in the meantime he was still busy with a couple of releases for mule musiq, laid, smallville and dj kozes pampa imprint. his first mix cd >timeless< has been recorded lately for cocoon recordings. coming home to his own imprint prooves once more how modern house music should sound like: deep, moving and always surprising. >etoile du midi already travelled around the globe including tokyo, london, berlin and hamburg to finally being cut on vinyl after bringing the magic to all those lovely clubs worldwide

the majestys pleasure label returns after an extended break with their fourth issue of disco-centric edits and its clear the time out of the spotlight has left this mystery bunch of dusty fingered tweakers fully refreshed. whilst previous volumes have dipped toes in funk filled and philly string led waters, majestys pleasure vol 4 focuses fully on music from the post-disco /proto-house period of the 1980s and sounds very much like a beautiful swimmers dj set condensed into just 12 inches of vinyl. the concerted diggers out there will be consulting their sample notes for the source material on each of these (space palace has the most obvious hook) whilst those whove simply been enjoying output from the intermittent eros label will love both sides here

so, who is this mysterious afefe iku? after absolutely destroying the dancefloors all year long with his infamous bootleg of radioheads >everything in its right place<, which he smartly put out in extremely limited amounts of vinyl around the same time his mentor, osunlade, featured his cover of that very same song on bbes >exit music: songs with radio heads<. in all honesty afefe remains a mystery even to us. so, let us start by saying who afefe isnt. unfortunately, for those who thought he was osunlade, you are mistaken, but dont feel ashamed, because afefe creates at osunlades studio in santorini, which makes sense to pinpoint him as osunlade.

cut mistake music was conceived somewhere between the day dream induced soundscapes of my bloody valentines loveless on the western seaboard of ireland and the haze filled manic energy of new york city dance floors. loosely associated with a collective of new york based musicians our aim is true and our message clear, we want to bring our landscapes to the ears of those who are willing to listen. this first release comes from the hearts & minds of the label founder cnnr (connor whiriskey) and good friends no regular play (nicholas debruyn & greg paulus).

for a short period in 1981 and with brand-new equipment such as roland 808, sh 101, gr 500, we made some 8-track just for fun jam tapes. mainly just to experiment for our own pleasure. from those sessions, only white horse made it to a final treatment. the rest of the material was left behind, as our record company at the time found it too different. after white horse being a track indeed defining our sound, we thought it would be interesting to dig out left-overs to fulfill a documentation of that period - crucial for us at the time. we were still innocent newcomers, without actually knowing to be creating a new sound! recently, that left-over material was transferred from analogue to digital and, to stay as true as possible to original intentions, we only added vocals, bass and drumbeats ahead of a final mix. we hope that you will enjoy listening to it. good vibes from laid back copenhagen 2012.

continuing on from the massive kon 12 inch released on basic fingers we welcome back our good friend kok. on the a side koko delivers a real uplifting feel-good disco/boogie scorcher that will make you wish for those hot summer parties. stay with me by norman connors is perhaps not his most known track but we will guarantee this bad boy will be the prime time number for many djs as koko really takes this track to another level. soulfulness at its very best! on the b-side burning up by imagination has, since its release almost 30 years ago ripped up dancefloors all over with its piano chord hook and a steady bassline. this mix is an updated version with lots more production details and plenty of koko flavour. its already been tried and tested in the basic finger kitchen with an exceptional result.

the detroit threads team is at the center of a community of vinyl enthusiasts that take pride in their individual approach to sound. this community struggles to keep their vision alive though the warmth of the medium that holds a special place in the heart, vinyl. as the electronic sound evolves new faces and styles emerge to challenge the establishment. detroit threads hears those voices and works to give them a platform. hou531 and .kite were chosen to represent detrot threads, because they are the yin and yang of the detroit dubstep movement. hou531 has a rambunchous method of creating grinding dubstep that is a release from a lifetime of detroit pressure. where as, .kite uses ethereal synth ambience sprinkled lightly with drum and bass to create an environment that is both sad and beautiful. these artists are under the radar, but by no means are they irrelevant.

dj w!ld and robsoul – the perfect match. phil weeks recently spoke in an interview about how there are certain producers he always trusts and gives complete freedom to when he asks them to record an ep for robsoul - dj w!ld was one of those he named. on w!ldsytle we get four cuts that again showcase the french producers trademark style of tracks which build and build, creating dancefloor intensity through their relentless hypnotic grooves, before breaking into expertly chosen sampled breakdowns. with recent outings on harry klein, jonk and luna records alongside his own catwash and his more recently launched the w label, dj w!ld is in serious demand right now. a stalwart of the tech and deep house scene, his career path began in the clubs of paris in 1996. working with chris carrier from 2005 under the name of catwash (which also spawned the label) he became well known in the french house and techno scene and by 2009 was touring the world, including being offered the residency he retains for circo loco at dc10. the w label launched in 2011 and was home to w!lds critically acclaimed >palace< album and the club destroying singles it contained. may will see the launch of a new dj w!ld album, d!rty, on the impeccable cabin fever imprint run by matt edwards (radio slave)

as hot as ever the new ep from our siberian disco friends is finally landing into theomatic’s catalogue. the title track solar wind is a rhodes driven hands-in-the-air early night anthem: simple yet powerful, just the way we like it! the flipside features an offbeat cosmic number “planetarium” which sounds like a perfect soundtrack for some colourful sci-fi cartoon about the early years of space exploration, with all those rockets, flying saucers, stars and comets with long tails. the bonus track (available as a digital download only) is named after the soviet moon exploration robot vehicle lunokhod 2 (’moon walker’ in russian) which was sent to the moon in 1973. being rather minimalistic at the begining it slowly evolves and reaches its apogee closer to the end with calm and beautiful melody which leaves the listener in a peaceful mood

the citizens bands second instalment for ramonas favourite label hollows their long lasting love affair. christian beisswengers (cb funk, one half of arto mwambe) is nothing less than dealing with the demise of an empire. >broken rome< is a codeine trip through early nu groove rave tracks as well as an ode to junior vasquez at the helm of the sound factory seen and heard through frosted glass. >densed< on the other hand tips its toes into the current deep house stream with an arto-mwambe-like hook and a thumping bass line. the spaces in-between those rudiments are taken up by the idm finger exercise and jewel that is >into<: ottoman dancing!

nitetime is the new production duo from boston, usa comprised of kon (from kon & amir) and whisky baron and was actually first send to us by fellow bostonians soul clap. nitetimes debut ep. jive talk sits on a bridge between og boom bap hip hop - with its tough drums and grooved up interludes - and the 4/4 rhythms of classic house and disco. it also comes packed with a little more history than meets the eye…,.the ep has only just been pressed to wax and its already picking up love from gilles peterson, jacques renault, eli escobar, soul clap, recloose, karizma, lefto from belgium and lovemonk in madrid. dont let this record slip through those dusty fingers of yours.

manuel tur returns to freerange following some brilliant eps including foolin on delusions of grandeur and more recently the sublime deepness of about to fall on mildpitch, the label he runs with dplay. recent remixes include those for jazzanova, azari & iii and wildbirds and peacedrums on dixons philomena label. manuel is also one half of ribn alongside langenberg and their releases have recently got rave reviews following releases and remixes on ovum and poker flat. jimpster continues to be in demand as a remixer and dj with his recent remixes for terrence parker on systematic and freak seven on 2020 vision both storming into the top tens of the major online house charts. he currently holds number one on traxsource deep house with his freak seven remix. king britt has had an amazing return to form the last year or so with his remix of jay haze for contexterior and his planet e release proving why he is such a versatile and accomplished producer. already being played and charted by by ame, deetron, agoria and steve bug.

our second vinyl release 2012 introduces a new series, the bias jams, on ilian tape. we start off with a compilation of 4 tracks from japan, serbia, argentina and italy. after some internal investigations we found out that imugem orihasam is not only a japanese shaolin, but also a yoga guru. his bias cut sounds like an instruction for a deep meditation in a forest. we chose a forest, because forests need to be saved. too many black puffs of vapour are killing them at the moment. our late riser regen probably didnt had that a mind, but we declare him to be an environmental activist from now on. now how should we include paper tape in this story … had a look online and found the term perforated paper tape. pretty interesting stuff, it was one of the first methods for data storage. ok are you guys joking? orbital? there is no way to write a good story with those track names. >an atomic orbital is a mathematical function that describes the wave-like behavior of either one electron or a pair of electrons in an atom<. yeah right! well in fact its enough to know that the bias jams series will feature some heavy bomboclaat bias cuts from various artists! cheers

this latest 12 comes courtesy of phil mison & pete herberts much lauded reverso 68 project. baa boo is exactly the kind of blissfully dreamy groove we have come to expect from this accomplished production duo, musical, melodic and tailormade for sunnier climes. on the flip we have piano 89, pretty self explanatory really, but for the benefit of those not pushing 40, its an old school house jam, drenched in the kind of italo piano hook that used to ignite late 80s dancefloors and is destined to do the same some 20 years on - magical.

rubini’s new production is dedicated to the legendary group-b rally era (1982-1986), universally considered as the most spectacular moment of the motoring sports history. rubini succesfully transfers those dramatic and thrilling scenario in a disco/tech language. le cahier de occelli is an intimate ambient journey, drawing the mystic landscapes of those dirty roads. easyleft henri is dedicated to the amazing pilot henri toivonen, whom incredible skills inspired this energetic disco/house drive, with steering bass-line and a whirling vintage synths. dancefloor missiles, roar!
